When celebrities, royalty and public figures get married, it is as if we all get to follow the wedding… yes, what we get to see at home from our sofas in our living rooms. In this blog post, we remember some iconic wedding dresses through the ages. Do you have a favourite? An iconic dress that you want to see more of? A particular style that you dream of wearing yourself on your wedding day?

Victoria Adams Beckham

On July 2, 1999, the football hunk David Beckham and the pop artist Victoria Adams got married. The wedding dress was designed by none other than Vera Wang. The dress was strapless, in champagne colour and had a 6-meter-long trailer. In addition, Victoria wore an 18-karat gold crown with diamonds.

Princess Diana

Of course, the people’s princess, Diana, will be in this blog post. Her wedding dress is one of the most iconic ever. David Emanuel designed the dress. Meringue pastry is what many describe the dress as – large puff sleeves, neckline with fringes and an infinite number of beautiful details. It is said that all applications were sewn on by hand… even all 10,000 beads. People are still talking about the 8-meter-long trailer today…

Portia de Rossi

Most people recognize Portia de Rossi from her character Nelle in the TV series Ally McBeal – her gorgeous big blonde curly hair made so many envious. On August 16, 2008, she married comedian and TV personality, Ellen DeGeneres. The stunning wedding dress was designed by Zac Posen, who we have seen a lot of in the TV show “Project Runway”. The dress had a pale pink, plump ball skirt, deep V-neckline at the front and bareback. So, think… even then the trend had started with wedding dresses with a bit of colour.

Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton embodied the royal look at her wedding to Prince William on April 29 2011, at Westminster Abbey in London. Her iconic wedding dress was a modern and classic combination of a deep v-neckline with long lace sleeves and a dramatic train (which her sister Pippa Middleton designed). The Duchess of Cambridge also wore a tiara (borrowed from Queen Elizabeth II) and a half-length veil of silk tulle embroidered with flowers. Designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, the dress received rave reviews and remained one of the most influential and popular celebrity wedding dresses of all time.

Meghan Markle

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married in 2018, many were excited to see what her wedding dress would look like. As long as Meghan has been a public figure, she has also been seen as a fashion icon. According to a design by Claire Waight Keller, the Parisian fashion house Givenchy sewed up the wedding dress. It is said that it took more than 3900 hours to finish sewing!

Priyanka Chopra Jonas

Priyanka Chopra’s stunning wedding wardrobe won’t be forgotten in a short while. The Quantico actress married singer Nick Jonas during a lavish multi-day celebration in India that Christianity and Hinduism influenced. During the week-long traditional wedding celebration, the Miss World 2000 wore several beautiful gowns, including two bespoke dresses – one for each ceremony. The bride wore a custom-made, long-sleeved, A-line wedding gown by Ralph Lauren, embellished with over two million sequins and topped with an impressive 75-foot-long veil for the Christian service. At the Hindu ceremony, Chopra sparkled in a red lehenga by designer Sabyasachi Mukherji, which was custom-made and took more than 3,720 hours to create, with a team of more than 100 people working on it.
